Fragmented Self
Derived from the Intro to Photography course at Cornell University, Fragmented Self is a conceptual photo series exploring the complex relationship between body image, self-perception, and vulnerability. Inspired by my personal struggle with body dysmorphia, the project reflects how societal beauty standards—particularly those ingrained in South Korean Culture—shape and distort self-image.
Through close-up, abstract, and physically manipulated images of various body parts, I emphasize textures and so-called imperfections, challenging the standard of beauty as perfection. The series aims to confront the viewer's own perception of flaws, encouraging introspection and a redefinition of beauty that embraces vulnerability and imperfection as integral parts of the human experience.
